Daily Practices #1 Meditation
Are there things you do daily to help you through your day? This is the first in a short series sharing my favourite daily practices.
What do you do to enrich your day? You might commit time to yoga, qigong, meditation or journaling or it could be as simple as a walk, or a cup of tea in a favourite mug. Alongside the little things that I drop into my day to keep on an even keel, I try and meditate daily. I don't always manage it, but like all my daily practices, I cut myself some slack: as the meditation teacher Martin Aylward says: "100% commitment and 100% forgiveness."
My daily meditation has been a real process of learning and development for me. In my next few newsletters, I plan to share some of my daily practices. I have recorded a short meditation for you to try. This is a meditation inspired by the Pebble Meditation created by Thich Nhat Hanh and initially taught to young people. The meditation helps to foster the qualities of stability, stillness, freshness and spaciousness.
Before you meditate, I wanted to remind you, that this daily practice is just that, a practice, and is very much a process. It isn't about banishing thoughts but rather developing your awareness. I invite you to be gentle with yourself as you practice.
